Events and Tours
Tours
The atmosphere of the property and its history as explained through tours gives a clear picture of life in the early colony; the household, the business of governing, controlling the army, the place of convicts and the conflict with Aboriginal people. This is the only known example of a faithfully recreated household of this size and era to be found in Australia.
Ghost tours at the house are run on the third Friday each month (in the evening).
Group bookings are required for guided tours (one hour long).
School holiday programs and special needs programs are available on request.
See Friends of OGH for more information on their tours, alternatively contact OGH.
Events
Imagine receiving your guests on the impressive vice-regal portico then providing them with a reception in the principal reception rooms - the only 18th century rooms in Australia.
Talks and seminars, concerts and an annual ball are also held at the House, which makes a stunning venue for any special occasion.
Old Government House is ideal for larger wedding parties. The pleasant Parramatta Park is right on site if a church wedding doesn’t appeal. Afterwards, it’s only a moment to move the party to Old Government House.
The manor house with its impressive portico makes a striking backdrop for wedding photos.
Dine in the marquee in the courtyard with excellent food served by Lachlan’s, the property’s on-site restaurant. Lachlan's marquee can accommodate up to 350 people.
Contact OGH for more information about holding an event at Old Government House.
