The images in the gallery below demonstrate the exquisite soft furnishings on site at Old Government House, which take our visitors back to the time of the Macquaries.
The majority of the soft furnishings were painstakingly recreated by hand by hardworking volunteers as part of the Soft Furnishings Project undertaken in 2004.

The 20 or so volunteers who formed the main team brought, or developed, skills which included painting on velvet, spinning cords for bell pulls and binding tassels.
Tassels and fringes which would have cost thousands of dollars if purchased from European workshops were made by hand in the rooms and courtyards of Old Government House. Fabrics sourced by Dr James Broadbent were cut, hand stitched and finished using designs sourced by Elizabeth Wright.
