NOTICE

As part of the funding under the Federal Government's "Jobs Fund" initiative, Old Government House has been undergoing major restoration in this bicentennial year of Governor Lachlan Macquarie. The building has been underpinned and to date there has been plastering, painting, refurbishing of toilet facilities and landscaping. The works were due to be completed in June 2010. However due to the finding of some exciting archaeological finds (including more foundations of Gov Arthur Phillip’s outbuildings) and the extensive period of heavy rain, the works will be continuing until August 2010. This includes the re-designed hydraulics (storm water and sewerage), courtyard landscaping to include interpretation of the archaeological discoveries and a new reception/shop. The Parramatta Park Trust will also be doing some road works in June 2010 that tie in with our restoration project. Some areas may therefore be off limits whilst construction work continues. Safety fences will be in place to ensure both security of the site and safety of our patrons. When completed the works will improve the visitor experience of the museum and ensure the longevity of the site.

We apologise for the inconvenience, but the future of Old Government House can only continue with this very necessary restoration work. We ask when visiting Old Government House you join us in looking forward to an enhanced visitor experience.
